The English club Liverpool will meet its Portuguese counterpart Benfica at this evening, Wednesday, at “Anfield”, the stronghold of the Reds, in the second leg of the quarter-finals of the European Champions League for the current season 2021-2022.
The first leg between the two teams ended with Liverpool winning 3-1 in the match that took place between them last week at Benfica Stadium in Portugal.
Liverpool needs to win or draw with any result, and even losing by a goal difference will be enough to cross the “Reds” to the semi-finals of the Champions League.
While Benfica needs to win by two goals to equalize the result with Liverpool and impose two additional games on the hosts, or a three-goal difference to cross into the semi-finals.
According to the draw, the road to the Champions League final will witness fierce competition, as the winner of Liverpool and Benfica is expected to meet the winner of Bayern Munich and Villarreal.
The Liverpool team qualified for the quarter-finals after overcoming the obstacle of the Italian team Inter Milan with a total of 2-1, and the Reds’ loss in the return match was not an obstacle to Liverpool’s rise to the quarter-finals.
While Benfica qualified for the quarter-finals of the continental championship, after defeating the Dutch team Ajax Amsterdam by three goals to two, where the two teams tied in the first leg in Lisbon with two goals for each team, while the return match ended with Benfica winning with a goal without a response.
