- The president of Madrid and UEFA meet for the first time after the conflict over the Super League
- Nasser Al-Khelaïfi did not attend the dinner organized by UEFA despite being invited
Florentino Pérez and Aleksander Ceferin have seen each other tonight in Paris for the first time since the creation of the Super League was announced on April 18, 2021. The failed project led by the president of Real Madrid has caused a dispute with UEFA pending resolution in court and also the wrath of his president, who has harshly criticized his Madrid counterpart over the last year.
The reunion took place at the Louvre Museum during the dinner organized by UEFA in advance of the Champions League final that Real Madrid and Liverpool play tonight at the Stade de France. The commitment, which began at 7:30 p.m., prevented the white boss from accompanying Carlo Ancelotti’s team in training held at the Stade de France at the same time.
Florentino was acclaimed by a small group of fans upon his arrival at the venue together with José Ángel Sánchez, general manager of Madrid and the president’s right-hand man. The reunion between Florentino Pérez and Aleksander Ceferin took place away from the cameras and both shared a table, according to various media reports. At dinner there was no press presence.
The event was attended by Luis Rubiales and Ángel María Villar, president and former president of the RFEF respectively, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, representative of the ECA, or Theodore Theodoridis, general secretary of UEFA. Figo, Rush or Mijatovic did not miss the event either.
The one who did not attend the UEFA commitment despite being invited was Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, president of PSG and the ECA. The absence of the Qatari therefore prevented him from meeting again with Florentino Pérez after the outcome of the soap opera Mbappé last week in favor of the Parisian club.
Al-Khelaïfi, whose relationship with Florentino has been deteriorating for months, is also Ceferin’s great supporter in his fight against the promoters of the Super League.
