A negative first half between Man City against Sporting Lisbon in the UEFA Champions League

 The goalless tie imposed itself during the first half activities between the two Manchester City teams against Sporting Lisbon, which is currently being held at the “Al Ittihad” stadium, in the second leg of the 16th round of the European Champions League, for the current season 2021-2022.

The European Football Association revealed that the Brazilian Fernandinho, the Manchester City player, entered the list of the 100 in the Champions League, after he participated mainly in his team’s match against Sporting Lisbon. 

According to the official account of the Champions League on Twitter, Fernandinho is the 44th player to reach 100 matches in the Champions League.

Manchester City’s task, led by Spanish coach Pep Guardiola, seems easy to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League in the current season 2021-2022.

The English team settled the first leg away from its stadium, with a broad victory over its host, Sporting Lisbon, Portugal, with five clean goals, at the “Jose Alvalade” stadium.

Manchester City’s five goals against the Portuguese team were scored by Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden and Rahim Sterling in the 7, 17, 32, 44 and 58 minutes of the match.


The Manchester City lineup was as follows:

Goalkeeper: Ederson

Defence: Eagan Riley, Laporte, Stones.

Midfield: Bernardo Silva, Gundogan, Fernandinho.

Forwards: Foden, Jesus, Sterling.


The “Opta” network, which specializes in monitoring statistics, said that Manchester City became the fastest team in the history of the Champions League to score 200 goals, in 97 matches.

She added that City is the 14th team that has scored 200 goals during its participation throughout the history of the competition.

Manchester City strengthened its lead in the English Premier League standings, after its wide victory over its neighbor Manchester United 4-1, in the derby meeting that brought them together recently at the “Etihad” stadium, in the competitions of the twenty-eighth round of the Premier League for the current season 2021-2022.
