- His son Davide, officially ‘first assistant’, cannot give instructions because he does not have the necessary qualifications to act as a first or second coach
The position of Real Madrid head coach could become vacant this afternoon in Balaídos due to Carlo Ancelotti’s absence due to COVID. His son Davide, who performs the functions of the second coach, does not yet have the UEFA PRO title required by Spanish regulations to be able to act as the first and second coach in the First or Second division.
Right now he has the previous degree and before obtaining the latter, which is UEFA B. This is reflected in the RFEF Regulations: “The Professional Coach Diploma/UEFA PRO License empowers you to coach any of the teams federated and Football or Futsal teams, being mandatory to exercise the functions of head coach in the categories of First Division, Second Division, Second Division “B”, First Division RFEF, Third Division and Division of Honor Youth Football, and for the First and Second Division of Futsal, respectively.” A qualification in Spain is required for both the first and second coach of the team in professional football.
This situation especially affects the development of the match between Celta and Real Madrid, in which the son of the Italian coach will not be able to get up from the bench at any time to give instructions. In case of doing so, it is exposed to a disciplinary sanction.
This is stated in article 231 of the aforementioned Regulations: “Only the coach, understanding as such the one who has a head coach or assistant coach license, will have the power to get up to give instructions to his team within the technical area, not being able to do both at the same time. The violation of this rule will lead to the purging of responsibilities in the disciplinary field.”
Then it may be the case that this afternoon if Carlo Ancelotti finally does not travel to Vigo, nobody gets up from the bench in Balaídos to give these instructions unless Real Madrid chooses to include a coach who has this UEFA PRO qualification.
