During the virtual CES 2021, LG is planning to showcase the new line of TVs with Mini LED technology.

The company has announced its intention to unveil what can be expected of its LCD-based kits in 2021.

The use of the Mini LED comes across the QNED branded TVs, which occupy a cutting edge in the company’s line of LCD monitors, although its main technology remains represented by the various OLED series.

Like other manufacturers, including TCL, LG is adopting Mini LED technology for the premium 8K and 4K LCD TVs that will be released next year.

It is reported that Samsung has not used Mini LED technology in its QLED LCD TV lineup yet, but it is expected to join soon.

LG says: The Mini LED allows it to make a giant leap in LCD TV picture quality.

The best LCD TVs today contain the so-called full-array backlight local dimming technology that appears in conventional televisions, with LEDs acting as a backlight behind the screen.

They can be zoned, and each zone can be dimmed to match dark scenes, helping to improve blacks and contrast levels.

The Mini LED changes strategy slightly by using much smaller LEDs to get more contrast than TVs that may outperform in blackout areas.

In LG’s case, the company says: its new backlight consists of nearly 30,000 tiny LEDs that produce impressive brightness and a contrast ratio of 1,000,000: 1 when paired with up to 2,500 advanced local dimming and dimming zones. .

According to the company, the end result is better contrast, more dynamic HDR and improved color fidelity, compared to the company’s previous LCD sets, with support for refresh rates up to 120Hz.

LG classifies high quality LCD TVs as QNED, where Q indicates the quantum dot color and N is assumed to be LG’s NanoCell brand.

LG says: QNED TVs come in sizes up to 86 inches, and as the leading brand in OLED TVs, LG is keen to emphasize that OLED devices offer the best picture ever, despite all these developments on the LCD side.

It should be noted that there is a difference between Mini LED and Micro LED technologies, as Mini LED technology represents an evolution of LCD TVs, while Micro LED technology represents a radical upgrade that removes backlight from the equation completely, like OLED, and brings together millions of self-emitting LEDs that It lights up only when you need it.
