There are complaints from many new iPhone 12 owners about not seeing SMS text messages from friends, losing text messages in group chats, and not receiving notifications when text messages come in.
If you have noticed that you are receiving SMS and iMessages from people, but you are not receiving any popup notifications about them or even the usual red badge to indicate that a new message is waiting to be read, you are not alone.
It is not clear whether the text notifications issue is related to iPhone 12 models specifically or it is a broader issue related to iOS 14.1 and iOS 14.2 versions, but it appears that the majority of complaints are from iPhone 12 owners.
Reports of the problem increased in the last month with the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
The text notifications issue also appears to affect people with older iPhones, linking it further to iOS 14.
According to users, the biggest issue about the bug is that it doesn’t always happen, as they noticed some messages appearing on the lock screen as normal, but some others don’t.
Users have tried to come up with alternative solutions, such as turning off messages on the Mac device or deleting and re-adding contacts.
Some notice that they receive notifications if they close the Messages app every time after sending the text message.
In other cases, missing notifications only happen to pinned conversations, and uninstalling contacts appears to do the trick.
There are scattered reports of these short-term reforms succeeding, but they do not work for everyone.
People who suffer from this problem are disappointed that Apple has not released a comprehensive fix yet, and this error can cause embarrassment among spouses or friends when messages remain for hours without the recipient knowing.
Early reports indicate that the text notifications issue is still present in some cases within the iOS 14.3 release – due out next week.
