Spanish club Athletic Bilbao announced the signing of Ander Herrera, the French player of Paris Saint-Germain, on loan for one season, with an option to buy, during the current summer transfer market.

A statement from the Spanish club said: “Athletic Bilbao and Paris Saint-Germain have reached an agreement regarding the loan of Ander Herrera until the end of the season, and the loan includes the option to purchase the player at the end of the loan period.”

Herrera returns to San Mamés eight years after leaving for Manchester United, who paid 36 million euros to sign him.

Herrera starred with the Basque team for three seasons, playing 128 games and scoring 11 goals, and was runner-up in the European League and Cup in 2011-12, leaving the team qualified for the Champions League.

In the summer of 2019, he joined Paris Saint-Germain, with whom he played 95 matches, winning the French Ligue 1 twice (2020 and 2022), the Cup twice (2020 and 2021), the League Cup (2020) and the Super Cup twice (2019-2020 and 2020-20). In addition, he was a runner-up in the UEFA Champions League in 2020 after losing the final against Bayern Munich.
