Turkish club Galatasaray announced today, Monday evening, its official contract with Dries Mertens in a free transfer deal with a one-year contract, during the summer transfer period, after the end of his contract with Napoli this summer.
The Turkish club issued a statement on its website saying, “We welcome Dries Mertens to Galatasaray and convey our best wishes for success under the yellow and red shirt.“
Mertens joined Napoli in 2013 and is expected to choose his team in the coming period, within the framework of the current summer transfers, after the end of his career with Napoli, which lasted 9 years, during which he succeeded in showing his influence with the team.
Mertens is the all-time top scorer for the South team, with 148 goals scored in 397 games, 26 goals behind Lorenzo Insigne.
Napoli announced the departure of Dries Mertens from the team at the end of his contract last season, as the two parties did not reach an agreement to extend the contract.
Earlier today, Galatasaray signed Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira from Arsenal on a permanent transfer deal, according to the club’s official website.
