Chelsea have announced the return of striker Timo Werner to his former club, RB Leipzig, after two seasons with Chelsea.

Chelsea said on their official website: “Timo Werner has completed his permanent move to Leipzig and returned to Germany after two seasons with Chelsea.”

He added: “The striker returns to the club where he spent four successful years before moving to West London, leaving Stamford Bridge for his homeland as European and world champion.”

“The Champions League victory in Porto was the highlight of his time with the Blues and it played its part in our success during his first season in England.”

No one has matched his tally of 12 goals or 15 assists in all competitions, while only Mason Mount appeared in more games for Chelsea in 2020/21.

“Today is the end of my journey with Chelsea FC,” Werner wrote in his farewell message. “I am so grateful for the time I spent at this special club.”

“At this point, I would like to express my appreciation to my teammates, coaches and staff, and especially to you, Chelsea Football Club supporters.”

He continued, “I have felt so much love and support for the past two years and I will never forget how you stood behind me through the good and the hard times!”
