Milan coach: Udinese punished us for the poor performance and the equalizer from a clear handball

Milan coach Pioli

Milan coach Stefano Pioli commented on the disappointing 1-1 draw with his guest Udinese at the San Siro stadium in the opening match of the 27th round of the Italian Serie A season 2021-2022.

In statements after the end of the match, Pioli said: “Udinese’s equalizing goal came from a clear handball for everyone. I think it was a huge mistake by the refereeing team, especially the VAR referee, because it is there to avoid these mistakes. This is not good.”

He added: “Udinese succeeded in punishing us for poor performance in the second half of the match, and I will repeat that you cannot play for 45 minutes of actual play.”

He continued, “The mouse technology exists to avoid these errors, it is clear that we are thinking about improving, but we have been punished more than once.”

On facing Inter Milan in the Italian Cup derby, Pioli said: “It is an important match for various reasons. It will bring us closer to the final, but we know the value of our opponents, and we will prepare it in the best possible way.”

Milan is at the top of the Serie A standings this season with 57 points, 3 points ahead of Inter Milan and Napoli, the runners-up with 54 points, and Udinese in 14th place with 26 points.
