GoPro announced a new $ 79.99 GoPro Remote wireless remote with free firmware updates that provide performance and improvements to the Hero 9 Black, Hero 8 Black and Max cameras.
According to the company, the GoPro Remote is durable and waterproof to 16 feet, and features large glove-friendly buttons with a screen to see which mode the camera is operating in.
The remote control can control common camera features, such as power on, stop, shutter button control and position change, for up to five cameras over a distance of about 200 feet.
The remote control can be connected to your wrist, control bar or steering wheel, providing remote control for GoPro’s Hero 9 Black, Hero 8 Black or Max attached via your helmet or wherever you want as long as the camera is within range of the Bluetooth LE signal.
Old GoPro cameras are not compatible with the new remote control that replaces the previous GoPro Smart Remote.
GoPro is also rolling out firmware updates for the Hero 9 Black, Hero 8 Black and Max cameras, and Hero 9 Black owners are seeing the most significant improvements after installing the update with version 1.5.
- Up to 30 percent faster wireless data transfer from the camera to the GoPro app via phones.
- Compatibility with the new remote control.
- HyperSmooth 3.0 performance improved in cold weather.
- Shortcut to the slider button to capture slow motion.
- GPS accuracy improved.
- Optimizing your live broadcast with Max Lens Mod.
- Support for 3.5mm microphone adapter.
In addition to adding support for the new remote control, GoPro says: The new Hero 8 Black camera firmware can increase wireless transfer speeds by up to 15 percent, while maximum data transfers have been improved by up to 20 percent.
Firmware updates are now available via GoPro’s website or app, and the $ 79.99 remote is available for purchase in North America starting now, but it won’t be available anywhere else until February.
