Djamel Belmadi, coach of the Algerian national team, confirmed that facing Cameroon was not easy at all, which the “Desert Warriors” won with a clear goal, in the match that brought them together on Friday evening at “Jaboma” stadium, in the first leg of the African final qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Diameter.
“Facing Cameroon was not easy at all, we knew that the danger came from any player in the Cameroonian team,” Belmadi said in his statements after the match, which was published by the Algerian newspaper “An-Nahar”.
Belmadi added, “The national team presented a heroic confrontation in difficult conditions, where the heat was high and the humidity was high,” explaining, “The players had to make great efforts in light of the method of play that we adopted today and that is new for us.”
Belmadi continued, “We should have made a lot of efforts to stop the Cameroonian national team and reduce its danger.”
Algeria qualified after topping Group A in the qualifiers, ahead of Burkina Faso, Niger, and Djibouti. Cameroon qualified at the top of Group D, which included Côte d’Ivoire, Mozambique, and Malawi.
It is worth noting that the return leg will bring the two teams together on Tuesday, March 29th, at the “Mustafa Tchaker” stadium in Algeria.
