Barcelona president Joan Laporta gave a new update on the future of French winger Osman Dembele at the club, after the striker scored a goal and provided two assists in the team’s 4-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.
Laporta said Barcelona had always wanted Dembele to continue his career at Camp Nou and hoped to consider staying after the end of the season when his contract expired.
Laporta added, in statements to the Spanish radio “Cadena Ser”, “Dembele knows our proposal and we have always wanted him to stay, and we hope that he will reconsider at the end of the season.”
On Pedri, the young Barca midfielder, Laporta commented, “Pedri is destined to be one of the best players in the world, if not the best, but he knows that he has to work hard. I agree with Xavi what he said about Pedri.”
Xavi was knocked out after yesterday’s match and likened Pedri to former team star Andres Iniesta.
On the possibility of contracting with Haaland, Laporta commented: “The sports administration is working on new contracts, we will see what they will offer us, we have several options.”
He concluded his statements by saying: “We are getting better with time, we like to see the fans happy, we still have a long way to go, Xavi is doing very well.”
Barcelona is in fourth place in the La Liga standings this season, with 45 points.
