Marc Cucurella

Cucurella can facilitate Marcos Alonso’s operation for Barca

  • Chelsea is interested in the Brighton winger, who has not closed his transfer to City, and is also looking at Inter’s Dumfries, with Azpilicueta waiting

Marc Cucurella could become an exit master key for Marcos Alonso, Chelsea‘s left-back who is on the list of reinforcements that  FC Barcelona intends to close. The Barca squad, now at Brighton, has broken into Chelsea’s list of goals in recent hours, according to David Ornstein, from The Athletic UK. According to this source, the ‘blue’ club is already in talks to sign Cucurella with Brighton, although there is still no agreement for the 24-year-old left-back. Brighton’s claims, around 50 million pounds (almost 60 million euros), have frozen a transfer to City that last week seemed like a no-brainer and now Chelsea is the club that, urged by the need to rebuild its defense, think of Cucurella.

There is still no agreement between clubs, but there are ongoing conversations, Chelsea is reluctant to open the door to two of its defenders who have already discussed a future with Barca, Cesar Azpilicueta, and Marcos Alonso. The departure of Andreas Christensen to Barca and that of Antonio Rudiger to Real Madrid, both after finishing their contract with the ‘blues’, have left the rear guard at Stamford Bridge very weak and the coach, Thomas Tuchel, demands immediate top-level reinforcements.

Both Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso wait for the registrations to lead to their respective departures to Camp Nou. Without giving names, both the Barca coach, Xavi Hernandez, as well as the president Joan Laporta and the football director Mateu Alemany keep the reinforcement operation open in this market window.

Negotiations between clubs intersect and, deep down, depend on each other. For this reason, as a result of Brighton’s inflexibility with the price of Cucurella, alternative transfers for Manchester City are circulating in the English media. The Daily Mail announced the names of left-backs Borna Sosa, from Stuttgart, and  Alex Grimaldo, from Benfica, as candidates to reinforce Pep Guardiola‘s squad.

For its part, Chelsea have also been twisted this summer by signings that seemed very on track for their defense, such as that of former Sevilla center-back Jules Kounde, finally signed by Barça, and previously that of Nathan Ake, from City.

To make matters worse, the price of another of its objectives is skyrocketing,

Wesley Fofana. The 21-year-old center-back has been valued by Leicester, who once paid 35 million euros, at 100 million, according to the Daily MailMatthijs de Ligt also preferred to leave Juventus for Bayern instead of signing for the Stamford Bridge club. There are more names on the ‘blue’ horizon: Milan Skriniar and Denzel Dumfries, central defender and right-back for Inter Milan. In the event that the Dutchman arrived at Chelsea,  Azpilicueta would also be clarified about his departure.
