After 15 years of running for the Grand Prize, this year’s Ballon d’Or excluded the legend Lionel Messi, from its list of 30 nominees, to reveal a journalist from France Football newspaper responsible for the award, the reasons for the exclusion.

Despite his “golden” career, and his record of winning 7 golden balls, Lionel Messi was excluded from the list of the 30 best players in the world, on Friday.

Journalist Emmanuel Bojan revealed, in a question-and-answer segment from the fans, why France Football excluded the Argentine star from its final list.

“Messi was in the final discussion about the nominees, but the new rules of the award, which cancel the effect of the player’s ‘career’ and depend on the previous season, not the previous year, were not in his favor,” Bojan said.

He added: “We also have to admit that his first season in Paris was disappointing, both in terms of numbers and in theory.”

French Karim Benzema is considered the most prominent candidate for the award, after an “exceptional” season with Real Madrid, in which he won the League and the Champions League.
