The latest report from market research firm Canalys showed that smartphone shipments worldwide reached about 348 million units during the third quarter of 2020, a drop of 1 percent compared to the same period last year.
According to the report, smartphone shipments increased by 22 percent compared to the second quarter of this year. Samsung regained the lead, up 2 percent, to 80.2 million units. Huawei slipped to second place, down 23 percent to 51.7 million units. Xiaomi ranked third for the first time, reaching 47.1 million units, with a growth of 45 percent.
Apple, which did not launch the new iPhone 12 phones last September – as usual – shipped about 43.2 million units, a decrease of 1 percent, while the Chinese company (Vivo) Vivo came in fifth place, shipping about 31.8 million units.
Oppo came in sixth place with 31.1 million units, while sister brand Realme moved to seventh, its highest position ever, after shipping about 15.1 million units of smartphones.
According to Canalys, the two best-selling smartphones in the world during the third quarter were: the iPhone 11 and the iPhone SE from Apple. The top ten included five phones from Samsung, and three phones from the strongly emerging Chinese company Xiaomi.
The third quarter of this year witnessed the sale of more than 16 million units of the iPhone 11, and the sale of more than 10 million units of the iPhone SE. Although the latter is the cheapest smart phone from Apple, the features that it came with made consumers buy it.
The Canalys second-quarter report showed that (iPhone 11) accounts for nearly 40 percent of Apple’s global shipments, while the iPhone SE phone accounted for 28 percent. And iPhone 11 – in particular – kept the first place in the top ten chart for four consecutive quarters.
The (Galaxy A21S) phone from Samsung is almost equal to the (iPhone SE) phone, followed by the (Galaxy A11) phone. It is noted that the only smartphones from Samsung, which booked their position in the top ten, are from the A series, and the (Galaxy A51) phone is the best in terms of specifications.
Likewise, the best-selling smartphones from Xiaomi, which are Redmi models, are led by (Redmi Note 9), then (Redmi 9), then (Redmi 9i).
And no 5G smartphone was able to reach the list of the ten best-selling smartphones during the quarter from July 1 to September 30, 2020.
